Resolution of Chronic Otitis Media, Difficulty Sleeping, and Tactile Hypersensitivity in a Child Undergoing Subluxation-Based Chiropractic Care
It has long been known that chiropractic care has helped millions of children's bodies resolve ear infections without the use of antibiotiotcs. When an adjustment is applied to a mis-aligned spine, the immune system boosts, the body balances itself, the sinuses and ear tubes begin to drain, and the body begins the process of healing. The benefit of healing naturally is this: When the body fights and defeats an illness without the use of medicines, it remembers how to defeat the illness the next time the perons comes in contact with the same illness, thus getting off the antibiotic rollercoaster. Underlying causes of ear infections range from mis-aligned vertebrae, food allergies, airbourne allergies, and a high toxic load/body burden. The following is an interesting study done by my collegues.
We have been taking care of families in our office for over 16years.

Charmaine Lanjopoulos, D.C.Bio & Damaris Lanjopoulos, D.C. Bio Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2012 ~ Issue 3 ~ Pages 81-84 Abstract Objective: To describe chiropractic care of a 2-year-old female with chronic otitis media, difficulty sleeping, irritability, skin sensitivities to clothes and being held or touched. Clinical Features: A two year old female was brought into the office by her mother with complaints of chronic otitis media, inability to sleep through the night, and skin sensitivities/tactile hypersensitivity to clothes and touch. Medical doctors had diagnosed the patient with chronic ear infections and a fractured clavicle due to birth trauma. The patient also had episodes of temper tantrums and violence towards her older sister. Subluxations were detected in the cervical, dorsal, lumbar and sacroiliac region according to Activator Methods protocol. Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic care utilizing the Activator Methods Technique. After three adjustments the patient slept through the night for the first time. After four months of care she no longer had ear infections, she was consistently sleeping through the night, was less irritable, able to wear clothes without discomfort, and much more willing to hug and be held. Conclusion: A positive outcome in a case of a two year old with chronic otitis media, sleeping difficulties, tactile hypersensitivity and vertebral subluxation is described. Research has shown a relationship between chronic ear infections and upper cervical subluxations as well as a relationship between upper cervical subluxations and sleeping difficulties. There is a need for further research to show the connection between vertebral subluxations, chronic otitis media, sleeping difficulties, and sensory integration. Ear infections are the #1 reason that children are initially brought into a chiropractic office. I bet you did not know that! Ear infections are a symptom of an underlying cause: food allergies, misalignments of the vertebrae that put pressure on the nerves - decreasing the effectiveness of the body at fighting illness and drainage of the tubes in the ears, other conditions such as candidaisis, which is discussed in the case study below.
Chiropractic education is focused on correcting underlying nutritional and biomechanical causes and is extremely effective for both ear infections and candidiasis.
Candida itself is a very extremely common problem in both men and women, which is caused by a high sugar and highly processed diet. It can also be passed from family member to family member and especially from mother to infant. If left untreated, candida leads to malabsorption issues, increased allergies, fatigue, depression, irritability, sleep disorders, joint aches, skin conditions, bloating, cramping, dry eyes and some paresthesias, as well as other symptoms.
In my office, I use a combination of chiropractic adustments in order to open the nervous system, correct balance of the body and improve immune and overall function of the body. In addition, I have added nutritional and blood testing, supplementation, which zeros in on nutritional/hormonal imbalances and then we feed the body what it needs for health.
Enjoy the case study below, pass it on to a friend in need, and above all, keep learning.

Applied Kinesiology Management of Candidiasis and Chronic Ear Infections: A Case History

Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2010 ~ Issue 3 ~ Pages 122 -129 Abstract
Objective: To describe the use of Applied Kinesiology (AK) in the management of a pre-adolescent female with candidiasis, recurrent ear infections, and severe postural imbalances that occurred when these infections were present.
Clinical Features: This six-year-old patient had painful earaches on a monthly basis since the age of 4-months. She had undergone antibiotic treatment 25 times in her life, suffered two urinary tract infections, and displayed oral thrush. Exposure to water and cold air consistently produced an ear infection according to her parents.
Intervention & Outcome: AK methods were utilized to diagnose and treat this patient with rapid resolution of her candidiasis, ear pain in cold air and water, and ear infections. She has been symptom-free for 2 years since her first 4 AK treatments over a three-month period.
Conclusion: In this case a multi-modal chiropractic system for the evaluation of muscle-joint subluxations were useful for the discovery of a number of complex causative factors underlying this patient’s digestive and immune system compromise, as well as her recurring infections and earaches.

I have been a chiropractor for since 1996 but an athlete since I played baseball with the boys in the early pee wee leagues. I continued with sports throughout my high school career: softball, basketball, skiing and competitive horseback riding. In chiropractic school I was introduced to functional exercise and structural rehabilitation and continue to do this type of exercise to this day with great success.
