Resolution of Chronic Otitis Media, Difficulty Sleeping, and Tactile Hypersensitivity in a Child Undergoing Subluxation-Based Chiropractic Care
It has long been known that chiropractic care has helped millions of children's bodies resolve ear infections without the use of antibiotiotcs. When an adjustment is applied to a mis-aligned spine, the immune system boosts, the body balances itself, the sinuses and ear tubes begin to drain, and the body begins the process of healing. The benefit of healing naturally is this: When the body fights and defeats an illness without the use of medicines, it remembers how to defeat the illness the next time the perons comes in contact with the same illness, thus getting off the antibiotic rollercoaster. Underlying causes of ear infections range from mis-aligned vertebrae, food allergies, airbourne allergies, and a high toxic load/body burden. The following is an interesting study done by my collegues.
We have been taking care of families in our office for over 16years.

Charmaine Lanjopoulos, D.C.Bio & Damaris Lanjopoulos, D.C. Bio Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2012 ~ Issue 3 ~ Pages 81-84 Abstract Objective: To describe chiropractic care of a 2-year-old female with chronic otitis media, difficulty sleeping, irritability, skin sensitivities to clothes and being held or touched. Clinical Features: A two year old female was brought into the office by her mother with complaints of chronic otitis media, inability to sleep through the night, and skin sensitivities/tactile hypersensitivity to clothes and touch. Medical doctors had diagnosed the patient with chronic ear infections and a fractured clavicle due to birth trauma. The patient also had episodes of temper tantrums and violence towards her older sister. Subluxations were detected in the cervical, dorsal, lumbar and sacroiliac region according to Activator Methods protocol. Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic care utilizing the Activator Methods Technique. After three adjustments the patient slept through the night for the first time. After four months of care she no longer had ear infections, she was consistently sleeping through the night, was less irritable, able to wear clothes without discomfort, and much more willing to hug and be held. Conclusion: A positive outcome in a case of a two year old with chronic otitis media, sleeping difficulties, tactile hypersensitivity and vertebral subluxation is described. Research has shown a relationship between chronic ear infections and upper cervical subluxations as well as a relationship between upper cervical subluxations and sleeping difficulties. There is a need for further research to show the connection between vertebral subluxations, chronic otitis media, sleeping difficulties, and sensory integration. “Back to the Basics…”
“God breathed into man the breath of life—we add—and left within, a body manager to regulate body functions including reproduction of cells. There is a power within you—you recognize it in others as the ability to move-see-hear-speak breathe. What is this power? Who can answer? We call that power INNATE INTELLIGENCE. You look around you and recognize there is a power that governs and controls the universe and all things in it. You may call it NATURE or you may say it is AN ACT OF GOD. But whatever you choose to call it, you do recognize a FORCE.
“Within YOU is a ‘grain’ of the universal power. If there were not, you would cease to move, see, hear, breathe, feel—exist as a HUMAN INTELLIGENT BEING. As long as that power within you has control of your body a state of HEALTH exists. Should something interfere with normal control of that internal power—then you cease to enjoy your birthright—HEALTH—instead a state of dis-ease becomes prominent.
“Healing is a process afforded you by your Creator and is above and beyond the control of man. Your Chiropractor does everything possible to help Innate heal—but he cannot heal nor can anyone else produce healing for you. When the right adjustment is made, Innate goes to work. You feel the results when dis-ease turns to ease.” – BJ Palmer
Chiropractic's famous first adjustment is recognized each year on Founder's Day, commemorating September 18th, 1895, when Dr. Daniel David Palmer administered his initial specific chiropractic adjustment on Harvey Lillard in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. D.D. Palmer delivered the first chiropractic adjustment with the specific intent of realigning a malpositioned vertebra, restoring its normal position, in an attempt to restore a hearing defect. That attempt, as the world now knows, was successful.
From an innovative scientific concept, the science and practice of chiropractic rapidly gained official status through the legislatures of the various states under the authorities reserved to the states in the U.S. Constitution to "regulate the professions and the trades." The legal development of chiropractic began shortly after the initial articulation of chiropractic principles and, by the 1920s, chiropractic was well on the way to formal legal recognition and regulation through licensure in numerous states.
The above words probably caught the attention of a lot of you. If you are experiencing these problems, chiropractic can help. In this case, restoring proper kinesiological and neurological function by reducing vertebral subluxation(spinal misalignment) restored proper afferent stimulation of the autonomic nervous system resulting in a reduction of symptoms. Many times I find that it is a combination of improper cervical (neck) structure as well as nutritional deficencies. If anyone in your family or friendly circle is experiencing these problems, i would be happy to have a look at them. Please read the short abstract below. Read in good health, Dr. Kim Maziarz
Improvement in a Child with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Constipation, and Deformational Plagiocephaly Undergoing Chiropractic Care
Robin Swaminathan, D.C. Bio & Laura Hanson, D.C., D.I.C.C.P. Bio
Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2011 ~ Issue 1 ~ Pages 9-13 Abstract
Objective: The chiropractic management of an infant with of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), constipation and deformational plagiocephaly is described.
Clinical Features: A 5-month-old female presented for care with complaints of GERD since birth and constipation since she was 4-6 weeks old. At the time of initial presentation medication was not affecting frequency or amount of reflux symptoms. Bilateral flattening of the occiput was noted indicating deformational plagiocephaly.
Intervention and Outcomes: The patient was seen 19 times over approximately 6 months for chiropractic evaluation and management. Chiropractic adjustments included atlas, T2, L4, sacrum and the cranial vault. At the time of a 6-month care reassessment, the patient had ceased taking anti-reflux medication and was regularly having 1 to 2 bowel movements per day. The patient’s plagiocephaly was improved with only slight leveling of the occiput noted.
Conclusions: In this case, restoring proper kinesiological and neurological function by reducing vertebral subluxation restored proper afferent stimulation of the autonomic nervous system resulting in a concomitant reduction in subluxation findings, deformational plagiocephaly and visceral dysfunction.

I have been a chiropractor for since 1996 but an athlete since I played baseball with the boys in the early pee wee leagues. I continued with sports throughout my high school career: softball, basketball, skiing and competitive horseback riding. In chiropractic school I was introduced to functional exercise and structural rehabilitation and continue to do this type of exercise to this day with great success.
