I have objected to mega-dosing on Vit. D from the beginning. If you are in the sun about 10 min for fair and 20 min for dark skin, your body will make enough D from approximately spring through Halloween. If your Vitamin D is low at that time, then your absorption is low or diet is poor in greens/vegetables and too much processed food. Supplementation after Halloween in North America is appropriate at lower doses, say 400iu to 1000iu daily, but you still must eat well! Please read newest research below. It is important to note that Vitamin D produced by your skin when exposed to the sun has important hormonal affects on your body. Your body will store the excess Vitamin D and will release what it needs at appropriate times and will rid itself of the extra. Vitamin D take orally pumps up what is in the blood stream, but can have bad effects it build up is too high. Outdoors exposure is best!

Designs For Health Research & Education Blog Current Articles | RSS Feed How Much Vitamin D is to Much? Posted on Fri, Aug 17, 2012 @ 10:26 AM Email Article inShare10 We know that too little vitamin D is not healthy, but how about too much? Until recently, it has been believed that megadoses of vitamin D might not be a good idea, but that it was relatively harmless. However, a study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism looked at 250,000 people from Denmark showing that levels below 20 nmol are associated with a 2.3 times increased risk for dying and that levels above 140 also had an increased mortality of 1.4 times above the ideal level of 50.
Unless there is an advantage of taking megadoses of vitamin D for some special reason, it is wise to keep replacement dosages to what is needed to maintain a level of 50 nmol. Some examples where especially high dose vitamin D3 supplementation might be considered include viral infections, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.

I have been a chiropractor for since 1996 but an athlete since I played baseball with the boys in the early pee wee leagues. I continued with sports throughout my high school career: softball, basketball, skiing and competitive horseback riding. In chiropractic school I was introduced to functional exercise and structural rehabilitation and continue to do this type of exercise to this day with great success.
