It has long been known that chiropractic care has helped millions of children's bodies resolve ear infections without the use of antibiotiotcs. When an adjustment is applied to a mis-aligned spine, the immune system boosts, the body balances itself, the sinuses and ear tubes begin to drain, and the body begins the process of healing. The benefit of healing naturally is this: When the body fights and defeats an illness without the use of medicines, it remembers how to defeat the illness the next time the perons comes in contact with the same illness, thus getting off the antibiotic rollercoaster. Underlying causes of ear infections range from mis-aligned vertebrae, food allergies, airbourne allergies, and a high toxic load/body burden. The following is an interesting study done by my collegues.
We have been taking care of families in our office for over 16years.

Charmaine Lanjopoulos, D.C.Bio & Damaris Lanjopoulos, D.C. Bio Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2012 ~ Issue 3 ~ Pages 81-84 Abstract Objective: To describe chiropractic care of a 2-year-old female with chronic otitis media, difficulty sleeping, irritability, skin sensitivities to clothes and being held or touched. Clinical Features: A two year old female was brought into the office by her mother with complaints of chronic otitis media, inability to sleep through the night, and skin sensitivities/tactile hypersensitivity to clothes and touch. Medical doctors had diagnosed the patient with chronic ear infections and a fractured clavicle due to birth trauma. The patient also had episodes of temper tantrums and violence towards her older sister. Subluxations were detected in the cervical, dorsal, lumbar and sacroiliac region according to Activator Methods protocol. Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic care utilizing the Activator Methods Technique. After three adjustments the patient slept through the night for the first time. After four months of care she no longer had ear infections, she was consistently sleeping through the night, was less irritable, able to wear clothes without discomfort, and much more willing to hug and be held. Conclusion: A positive outcome in a case of a two year old with chronic otitis media, sleeping difficulties, tactile hypersensitivity and vertebral subluxation is described. Research has shown a relationship between chronic ear infections and upper cervical subluxations as well as a relationship between upper cervical subluxations and sleeping difficulties. There is a need for further research to show the connection between vertebral subluxations, chronic otitis media, sleeping difficulties, and sensory integration. Key Words: Chiropractic, otitis media, sleep, Activator Methods, adjustment, skin sensitivities, sensory integration dysfunction, autism spectrum, tactile hypersensitivity, vertebral subluxation

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this case study as I have observed facial asymmetry as well as asymmetry of the skull following birth many times in my 15 years in family practice. Ususally the parents come in extremely concerned and fighting the option of putting a sort of "molding helmet" on the childs head for long periods of time during the day. Another aspect with facial asymmetry is to make sure the jaw is aligned. A symptom of this would be difficulty in nursing. Similarly, misalignments in the upper cervicals may make it difficult for the child to nurse from both sides of the body, as in a limitation of turning its head both right and left. It is important to have these asymmetrys checked of course, as well as the size of the head. But I myself have never had a case not clear up with adjustments of the spine and cranium , As well as manipulation of the musculature. Enjoy the case study below.

Introduction: To present the chiropractic care of a patient with facial asymmetry concomitant with vertebral subluxations.
Clinical Features: A four day old male presented with a facial asymmetry sustained at birth. Additional complaints included constipation, hypersalivation, and intestinal gas. Objective indicators of vertebral subluxation were identified via motion palpation and cranial examination. Infant reflexes were unremarkable.
Intervention & Outcomes: Logan Basic, Diversified, and Active Release were the techniques utilized over the course of care to reduce vertebral subluxations. The parents were given instructions on how to provide daily muscular treatments at home. The home regimen included soft-tissue massage, cranial massage, and inversion therapy.
Conclusion: The case of a four day old male with a history of facial asymmetry, constipation, hypersalivation, and intestinal gas is presented. Dramatic improvement in facial asymmetry is noted following the introduction of chiropractic care concomitant with a reduction in vertebral subluxation. Improvements were also observed with the patient's additional complaints. Further research is warranted to determine the benefits of chiropractic intervention.

I have been a chiropractor for since 1996 but an athlete since I played baseball with the boys in the early pee wee leagues. I continued with sports throughout my high school career: softball, basketball, skiing and competitive horseback riding. In chiropractic school I was introduced to functional exercise and structural rehabilitation and continue to do this type of exercise to this day with great success.
