New Study Suggests Ginger Eases Muscle Pain by 25%
A recent study conducted by the University of Georgia found that ginger, consumed daily, reduced exercise-induced muscle pain. For eleven days, two groups of 34 and 40 participants took capsules of ginger, which is reputed for its warming, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. On the eighth day of this double-blind study, both groups lifted heavy weights and performed eighteen extensions of the elbow flexors with the intention of inducing a moderate injury to the arm.
Levels of arm function, pain, and inflammation were measured prior to the exercises and for three days afterwards. The result was a twenty-five percent reduction in pain in the group taking the ginger as compared to the placebo group.
